What is Wero?
Wero is the wallet of the European Payments Initiative — a group of major European banks building a payment network that does not route through Visa or Mastercard. It launched in 2024 and is deliberately not another national scheme: the same wallet is meant to work across borders, which is exactly what iDEAL, Bancontact and their neighbours never could.
It reaches customers through the banking apps they already have, plus a standalone app, and identifies them by phone number. Payments settle account to account in seconds rather than clearing overnight. It is live for consumers in Belgium, France and Germany, and in those markets it already sits in front of the large majority of banked people, because the banks themselves are the distribution.
It is the newest method in our list and the one most likely to change shape over the next couple of years — national schemes are expected to fold into it over time, and more countries are due as the member banks roll it out. For a merchant selling into Belgium, France or Germany today it is a small but fast-growing share; the reason to switch it on early is that it costs the least of any local method we offer and settles in two business days rather than three.

Why Wero, and why through Checky Pro
The top row is the method itself; the bottom row is what our platform adds on top of it.
A low local rate
No card scheme takes a cut along the way, so it is set to be one of our lower local rates. The rate is published when Wero goes live.
Real-time, on the usual schedule
Account-to-account payments clear in seconds and are paid out on the same schedule as every other method on our rate card.
Three markets, and built to grow
Belgium, France and Germany today. Unlike the national schemes it sits beside, Wero is designed to add countries rather than stop at a border.
Tell us and it counts
We have requested Wero for companies in the EU. Every merchant on the waitlist helps us prioritise it — and you hear the moment it goes live.
One balance across markets
Belgian, French and German payments will land in the same balance and payout schedule as everything else.
Nothing to rebuild later
Once Wero is live, switching it on is a toggle in your dashboard, not an integration project.

What is Wero and who is behind it?
It is the wallet of the European Payments Initiative, a group of major European banks building a payment network that does not run through Visa or Mastercard. It launched in 2024.
What does a Wero payment cost?
The rate is published when Wero goes live. There will be no authorization fee and no currency conversion, because Wero is paid and settled in euros.
When do I receive the money?
In 3–7 business days, like every other method — the payment itself clears in real time, so the order is confirmed straight away.
Do my customers need a separate app?
Not necessarily. Wero is built into the apps of participating banks, and there is also a standalone app for people whose bank has not added it yet.
When can I switch it on?
We have requested Wero for companies registered in the EU and cannot promise a date yet. Join the waitlist and we will tell you as soon as it is live.
