Accept Bancontact payments with Checky Pro
The one payment method every Belgian shopper has. Paid in euros, and for EU companies at a rate well below the card equivalent.
New here? Checky Pro is the payments & checkout platform for modern e-commerce — Bancontact is one of the 21 payment methods you can switch on today.
What is Bancontact?
Bancontact is Belgium’s own debit scheme, and it is close to universal there: virtually every Belgian current account comes with it, and virtually every Belgian shop takes it. It started life as a physical debit card, but online it now runs mostly through the app — the customer scans a QR code, confirms in Payconiq by Bancontact, and the money moves from their account to yours.
Belgium is a market where getting this right matters more than the country’s size suggests. It is a two-language market with a strong habit of buying from Dutch, French and German webshops, so Belgian shoppers are used to comparing foreign stores — and used to leaving the ones that only offer cards. Bancontact is the one thing Flemish and Walloon customers share at checkout.
For an EU company it behaves like iDEAL does in the Netherlands: euro in, euro out, no currency conversion, and a per-transaction cost of 1,5% plus € 0,40 that sits below what the same order would cost on a card. Unlike iDEAL, Bancontact is a card scheme underneath, so payments can still be disputed — rarer than on international cards, but not impossible.

Why Bancontact, and why through Checky Pro
The top row is the method itself; the bottom row is what our platform adds on top of it.
Everyone in Belgium has it
Bancontact comes with the current account. A Belgian checkout without it is asking shoppers to use their second choice.
Cheaper than the card equivalent
1,5% plus € 0,40, in euros, with no conversion. The same order on an international card costs you more.
Confirmed in the app
Scan, confirm, done — no card number and no 3-D Secure detour, which is why the drop-off between selecting and paying is small.
One balance across markets
Belgian payments land in the same balance and payout schedule as your Dutch and cross-border ones. One reconciliation, not three.
Switched on per market
Show Bancontact to Belgian shoppers and nothing changes for everyone else — the checkout follows the customer.
Judged on your store
We look at what you actually sell and how you fulfil it, not at a risk score — the reason merchants turned down elsewhere get approved here.

What does a Bancontact payment cost?
For a company in the EU: 1,5% plus € 0,40 per transaction, with no authorization fee and no currency conversion, because Bancontact is paid in euros. Rates differ per region, and outside the EU the euros are converted into your payout currency — switch the region above the pricing table on this page to see yours.
Is Bancontact cheaper than accepting a card?
For a company in the EU selling to Belgian customers, usually yes. At 1,5% plus € 0,40 it sits below what a Visa or Mastercard payment costs on the same order. In other regions that is not a given, so compare both on the pricing page.
Can a Bancontact payment be charged back?
Yes. Bancontact is a card scheme underneath, so a customer can dispute a payment. Because they authenticate in their own app first, disputes are rarer than on international cards — and when one lands it runs through the same flow in your dashboard.
When do I receive the money?
Bancontact payments settle into your Checky Pro balance in 3–7 business days and pay out on your regular schedule.
Can I offer Bancontact as a sole proprietorship?
Yes. Your company form no longer decides which payment methods you can offer: a sole proprietorship gets the same methods as an incorporated company. What counts is where your business is registered — the “Available for” row above shows the regions that can offer Bancontact, and the payment methods page has the full coverage.
