New here? Checky Pro is the payments & checkout platform for modern e-commerce — TWINT is one of the 21 payment methods you can switch on today.

What is TWINT?

TWINT is the Swiss mobile payment app, created and owned by the country’s own banks. It is not a card scheme and not an international wallet: it links straight to a Swiss bank account or card, and one app covers both the shop on the corner and the checkout on a laptop. Paying online means scanning a QR code with the app — or, on a phone, the app simply opens — and confirming with a PIN or a fingerprint.

That scan-to-pay habit is unusually deep in Switzerland. Where a QR code at checkout would confuse shoppers in most of Europe, Swiss customers reach for their phone without thinking, because it is how they already split a restaurant bill or pay at a market stall. A Swiss checkout that offers only cards reads as a foreign store to them.

For merchants there are two things to know. TWINT is CHF-only, so selling into Switzerland means accepting a currency you probably do not settle in — we convert it and show you exactly what it cost. And while every payment is authenticated in the customer’s own app before it is pushed, TWINT does have a dispute procedure: chargebacks are rarer than on cards, but they exist, and they land in the same dispute flow in your dashboard.

Why TWINT, and why through Checky Pro

The top row is the method itself; the bottom row is what our platform adds on top of it.

The Swiss default

TWINT is how Switzerland pays by phone. Offering only cards to a Swiss shopper is the fastest way to look like a store that is not meant for them.

Authenticated in the app

Every payment is approved with a PIN or fingerprint in the customer’s own TWINT app — strong authentication without sending them through a 3-D Secure detour.

A market cards leave half-open

Switzerland sits outside the EU and outside SEPA. Cards get you in the door; TWINT is what Swiss customers actually reach for.

Costs you can trace

The 3,7% and the 2% conversion are itemised per transaction — you can see what each CHF payment became in your own currency.

One balance, two currencies

Swiss payments land in the same balance and the same payout schedule as your euro ones. One reconciliation, not two.

Switched on per market

Show TWINT to Swiss shoppers and nothing changes for everyone else — the checkout follows the customer, not the other way round.

How a TWINT payment works

From click to balance — what your customer sees, and what happens behind it.

  1. 1

    Picks TWINT at checkout

One click in your checkout — no card number, no account to create.

  2. 2

    Scans the QR code

A QR appears on the payment page. On a phone there is no QR at all: the TWINT app opens straight away.

  3. 3

    Confirms in the TWINT app

The customer approves the amount with the PIN or fingerprint they already use for TWINT.

  4. 4

    Back in your store, confirmed

The customer returns to your confirmation page and the order can go to fulfilment.

  5. 5

    Settled to your balance

Converted from CHF and added to your Checky Pro balance, paid out in 3–7 business days.

What does a TWINT payment cost?

For a company in the EU: a 3,7% processing fee plus € 0,25 per transaction, and 2% currency conversion because TWINT is CHF-only. There is no separate authorization fee. Rates differ per region — switch the region above the pricing table on this page to see yours. Every transaction shows the breakdown in your dashboard.

In which currency am I paid out?

Your own. Customers always pay in Swiss francs; we convert to your settlement currency at 2% and it lands in the same balance as the rest of your payments.

Can a TWINT payment be charged back?

Yes. TWINT has its own dispute procedure, so a customer can contest a payment. Because they authenticate in their own app first, disputes are rarer than on cards — and when one does land it runs through the same flow in your dashboard, with a chargeback fee from € 25,00.

Do my customers need a Swiss bank account?

TWINT links to a Swiss bank account or card, so it is for customers who bank in Switzerland. Everyone else in your checkout keeps paying by card or wallet.

Do I have to build the QR code myself?

No. The checkout handles it: on a desktop the customer sees a QR code to scan, and on a phone the TWINT app opens directly — nothing for you to implement either way.

Can I offer TWINT as a sole proprietorship?

Yes. Your company form no longer decides which payment methods you can offer: a sole proprietorship gets the same methods as an incorporated company. What counts is where your business is registered — the “Available for” row above shows the regions that can offer TWINT, and the payment methods page has the full coverage.
